Sharing is caring!

Eating healthy during travel does not have to be difficult. Aside from eating healthy food—which is fairly obvious—it’s important to know how. These are the most fundamental steps that everyone should be able to follow.

Eat little but often

Health conscious practitioners as well as experts has advocated the idea for decades—that it’s advised to stop eating until you’re 50-80 percent full. This practice is often referred to as “hara hachi bu”. Which basically translates to “eat until you’re eighty percent full. It has numerous health benefits. And more importantly, they won’t make you feel bloated during your travel. Imagine having to sit in a plane for eight hours with a bloated stomach—it’s hell. Eating little but often would also allow your digestive system to take on a load that they can handle throughout the day. It would allow for a much healthier digestive system and process to take over as you’re allowing room for air in your stomach where gas would be produced during your digestion. On your travels, especially, this will help you maintain a good energy level throughout the day.

Pack your own lunch

Or dinner, or snacks. Bringing your own food is one of the most efficient ways of controlling what you take into your body during your travels. Always have breakfast before you go. Pack some fruits if you really can’t have breakfast at your hotel for whatever reason. Fruits are quick, easy, healthy, and delicious. Two apples is already very filling for a breakfast, that you can eat on the go! I always make a point to pack my own snacks. It’ll last me throughout the day between the big meals.

None of that excuse of ain’t nobody got the time to cook on your travels. Set aside a time so that you can cook batches of food. You can make your lunch for a few days and even for a whole week.

Take your vitamins

There will be a lot of unforeseen circumstances, and you need all the help you can employ in order to stay fit in your travel. Taking supplements is one of the easiest ways to support your body to go through the day. Take supplements for your immune system if the destination you’re going to is particularly famous for a certain type of illness. In this case, make sure to also consult your doctor about meds and supplements.

Stay hydrated

During travels, sometimes people just forget to drink. They only notice until they’re too thirsty, which means the body has become dehydrated. One of the easiest ways to remind yourself to drink throughout the day is t bring your very own water bottle. You can even set a reminder on your phone—so every time you’re looking at it to take a picture or to view a map, you’re going to be reminded to take your water.
